Arriving & getting around
Less time working out logistics. More time enjoying Frankfurt.
Is Frankfurt easy to explore on foot?
Central Frankfurt lends itself well to walking: the Old Town, Römerberg, Kleinmarkthalle and Main riverfront can be combined in a city-centre outing. Our suggestion is to explore one area at a time and leave room for food stops. Comfortable shoes help on older streets; use a taxi or public transport for longer journeys. See the tourism board’s Frankfurt attractions guide.
Do we need a car for a Frankfurt city break?
For a stay focused on the central sights, our recommendation is to combine walking with taxis or public transport rather than organise every day around a car. A regional excursion is a separate planning question: its destinations, transport and travel time should be agreed before you book.
What is the easiest way from Frankfurt Airport to a city-centre hotel?
For a direct arrival with luggage, consider a taxi or a transfer arranged with your hotel. For rail travel, the airport’s regional station serves the S8 and S9 towards Frankfurt; check your train’s destination and the best stop for your hotel. Choose according to your luggage, arrival time and comfort preferences. Consult Frankfurt Airport’s transport guide for your terminal and current arrangements.
Is Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof the same as the airport train station?
No. Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof, usually abbreviated Hbf, is the central railway station in the city. Frankfurt Airport has separate regional and long-distance railway stations. Check the exact station name on your ticket and allow time to get to the correct one. See DB’s central station information and the airport transport guide.
Where can we get a taxi at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof?
Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof has a taxi rank. Follow the station’s taxi signs, or ask DB Information or station service staff to direct you to the current pickup point. For a reserved driver, agree the precise exit and meeting point beforehand. Use the map on DB’s station page, as construction or access changes can affect the most convenient route.
Should we pre-book a car or just take a taxi?
For a straightforward journey, a taxi rank can be convenient. Our suggestion for a larger party, substantial luggage, a child seat or a specific vehicle is to arrange transport ahead and confirm capacity and pickup details. Ask your hotel or transport provider directly about the fare and waiting arrangements. Frankfurt’s official taxi information includes a city taxi-rank map.
Can we join a tour between flights or on arrival day?
Send us both flight times, your airport and the time you expect to have in the city. Immigration, baggage, transfers and the airline’s return-to-airport requirements all reduce the usable time. We can discuss whether a tour is realistic, but do not treat a short connection as enough for a three-hour food tour. For a more relaxed arrival, plan the tour after checking in or on the following day.

Where to stay
Choose a base that fits the kind of visit you want.
Which area should luxury visitors choose in Frankfurt?
Our starting point for a first visit is the city centre around Opernplatz, the financial district or the Old Town: compare the walk to your chosen sights and restaurants, as well as the hotel itself. If a quieter setting or a particular spa matters most, prioritise those features and allow for taxi journeys. For business travel, check the exact meeting venue before choosing a neighbourhood.
Which five-star hotels should we consider?
Two central five-star options to compare are Sofitel Frankfurt Opera, beside the Alte Oper and close to luxury shopping, and Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof, a historic hotel in the financial and old city centre. Our suggestion is Sofitel for an opera-and-shopping focus and Frankfurter Hof for a traditional grand-hotel setting. Compare current room categories, spa access and terms directly with each hotel.
Is there a contemporary luxury option near Frankfurt’s shopping streets?
Consider JW Marriott Hotel Frankfurt. The hotel has direct access to MyZeil and offers skyline views from higher floors. It is a useful option to compare if shopping and a modern city-centre base matter to you. Confirm the room category and view when booking; neither should be assumed from the hotel name alone.
Should we stay at the airport or in central Frankfurt?
Our recommendation is a city-centre hotel if dining, sightseeing and a private tour are the focus of your visit. An airport hotel may be more convenient for a very early departure or a short overnight connection. Compare the full door-to-door journey, including your terminal, rather than choosing solely on a quoted train or driving time.
How should we choose a hotel for a business trip with leisure time?
Start with your meeting or exhibition location and the time you must arrive, then compare evening dining and sightseeing access. A hotel near one venue may be less convenient for another. Leave a clear window for your private tour and tell us the hotel and any fixed commitments when you enquire.
Are these hotel recommendations personal reviews or partnerships?
These are researched planning suggestions based on the hotels’ published locations and facilities, not a ranking or a claim that Jens has personally stayed in each one. Confirm availability, room features, current classification and booking conditions directly with the hotel. Hotel accommodation is not included in a Fork & Walk tour unless expressly agreed.

Restaurants & local flavours
A few distinct choices, matched to the evening you have in mind.
Which Frankfurt restaurants should we consider for a special dinner?
Our shortlist covers three different styles: Lafleur for refined cooking by the Palmengarten, Seven Swans for a creative vegan experience, and MAIN TOWER Restaurant & Lounge for fine dining with skyline views. Choose by cuisine, atmosphere and the time you want to spend over dinner. Check current menus and reserve with the restaurant.
Where can we find vegan fine dining in Frankfurt?
Seven Swans is known for a fully vegan menu and a regional, seasonal approach. Lafleur also offers a dedicated vegan gourmet direction. Check the current menu and describe any allergies when reserving: a vegan menu does not automatically meet every dietary requirement.
Which restaurant offers a view of Frankfurt’s skyline?
MAIN TOWER Restaurant & Lounge is on the 53rd floor and pairs dining with views over the city. The restaurant requires a reservation; check its current booking window and closure dates directly. A meal there is a separate reservation, not an inclusion in our food tour.
Where can we try a traditional Frankfurt apple-wine restaurant?
Apfelwein Wagner on Schweizer Straße in Sachsenhausen is an option for a traditional apple-wine setting. It offers a different mood from a formal tasting-menu restaurant. Review the current menu and reserve directly, especially for a group. This is a visitor suggestion, not a promised stop on your tour.
What local Frankfurt specialities should we look out for?
Look for Grüne Soße, Frankfurt’s herb sauce; Handkäs, a regional sour-milk cheese; and Apfelwein, the local apple wine. At Christmas, Bethmännchen marzipan sweets are another Frankfurt speciality. Read the tourism board’s guide to local food. These are ideas for exploring the city; your tour’s actual tastings are confirmed separately.
Should we book dinner after a food tour?
Tell us if you have a special dinner planned so we can discuss the timing and expected tastings. Our suggestion is to leave a comfortable gap and avoid placing a long tasting menu immediately after the tour. Your appetite and the agreed food-tour inclusions matter more than a fixed rule.
How far ahead should we reserve restaurants?
Once your dates are firm, check the restaurant’s own booking calendar, particularly for a special occasion or a larger group. Booking windows vary: some open only a set period ahead. Confirm the menu format, cancellation terms, dietary arrangements and dress expectations with the venue.

Making the most of your visit
Space for food, culture and a little spontaneity.
What would you suggest for one relaxed day in Frankfurt?
Our suggested outline is an Old Town and riverfront walk, a private food tour as the main experience, and one additional stop that suits your interests. Avoid filling every hour: allow time for a café, your hotel and any evening reservation. We can discuss where the tour fits once we know your date and commitments.
What can we add to a two- or three-day stay?
Use one day for central Frankfurt, then add a cultural visit, shopping time or a regional outing. The city’s official visitor guide highlights the museum embankment and Palmengarten. Choose current exhibitions and opening days before setting your itinerary. A regional day is best planned separately so travel does not crowd out the experience.
Where is Frankfurt’s luxury shopping area?
Goethestraße is the city’s principal luxury shopping street. It works well as a separate stop around an Opernplatz or city-centre visit. Check individual boutique opening times or appointments, and leave any substantial shopping bags at your hotel before a walking tour.
Can we visit vineyards or historic towns from Frankfurt?
Yes, the wider region offers possibilities beyond the city. The Wiesbaden–Rheingau tourism guide is a starting point for places such as Eltville and the Rheingau’s wine towns. Tell us whether wine, castles or historic spa towns interest you most. Our regional experiences with Jens are planned individually; specific visits and transport require confirmation.
Is a Christmas visit a good time for a private experience?
A Christmas visit can combine the city’s festive atmosphere with a guided market experience. Our recommendation is to arrange your hotel, any special dinner and tour enquiry together once your dates are known. Market opening dates and our guide’s availability are separate; see the official seasonal information and our tour FAQ.
How do we combine a luxury stay with an authentic local food experience?
Choose the hotel and dinner reservations that suit your comfort and occasion, then use a private food tour to discover another side of the city: markets, regional flavours and conversation with Jens. Tell us what you have already planned, what you enjoy eating and your preferred pace. We will discuss an experience that complements your stay.
