Find your Frankfurt

Frankfurt rewards a little curiosity. Beyond the skyline are market counters, riverside walks, apple-wine taverns and neighbourhoods that feel far removed from the business district. For a memorable weekend, combine a comfortable hotel with a few carefully chosen experiences, then leave some time unplanned.

This itinerary suits a first visit, a weekend away or a couple of leisure days added to a business trip. It is a suggested way to spend your time; hotel stays, restaurant bookings and transport are arranged separately from a Fork & Walk tour.

Choose a hotel around the stay you want

For a central base with a sense of occasion, consider Sofitel Frankfurt Opera. Its location beside the Alte Oper works particularly well if shopping around Goethestraße is part of your plans, while the hotel’s spa and pool offer a welcome pause between outings.

Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof is another five-star option, with a historic setting and a central location convenient for exploring the old centre. If you prefer a more contemporary feel, JW Marriott Hotel Frankfurt offers direct access to MyZeil and skyline views from higher floors. Check the room category when booking if a view matters to you.

These are editorial suggestions to help you choose a base. Compare current room descriptions, availability and facilities directly with each hotel.

Arrive without overcomplicating it

With luggage, a taxi or a prebooked transfer can be the simplest start to your stay. Frankfurt Airport also has S-Bahn connections to the city from its regional station. The airport’s regional and long-distance railway stations are distinct from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, the city’s central station, so check the station name on your ticket.

If you arrive at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, follow the current signs to the taxi rank or arrange a collection point with your hotel. For flights, consult the airport’s official transport information before travelling. Leave time to settle in rather than scheduling your first experience immediately after arrival.

Day one: the old town, the market and local flavours

Begin around the Römerberg and the old town, then make your way towards the Main. This central area lends itself to exploring on foot, with plenty of opportunities to pause. Comfortable shoes still make a difference: cobbled surfaces, bridges and time spent standing can feel more demanding than the distance suggests.

For a deeper introduction, make a private Frankfurt food tour with Jens the centrepiece of your day. The approximately three-hour experience connects food with local history and culture, with a route taking in the old town, Kleinmarkthalle and the direction of Sachsenhausen, subject to the agreed itinerary and stop availability.

Private food tours are available on request Monday to Saturday, in English or German. A Saturday tour works well for a weekend visit; confirm your date before organising the rest of your day around it. Tell us about dietary requirements when enquiring so we can discuss what is possible.

Keep an eye out for Frankfurt specialities such as Grüne Soße, Handkäs, Apfelwein and Bethmännchen. They provide a delicious starting point for understanding the region, although individual tastings depend on your tour. The city’s guide to Frankfurt specialities offers a useful introduction.

Choose an evening with its own character

After a food-focused afternoon, leave a comfortable gap before dinner. Choose the atmosphere you want rather than trying to squeeze several celebrated restaurants into one weekend.

For a refined occasion, explore Lafleur at the Palmengarten, including its vegan gourmet option. Seven Swans is a distinctive choice for creative, fully vegan dining built around regional produce. For an evening framed by the skyline, consider the MAIN TOWER Restaurant on the 53rd floor.

If your ideal evening is more informal, Apfelwein Wagner in Sachsenhausen offers a traditional apple-wine tavern setting. Check opening days, menus and reservation requirements directly; these suggestions are separate from your tour and are not guaranteed tour stops.

Day two: art, river views or a slower morning

Give Sunday a different rhythm. An unhurried breakfast followed by a walk along the Main makes a pleasant counterpoint to the previous day’s tasting and exploring. Choose a museum on the Museumsufer that matches your interests rather than attempting to see them all. Check exhibitions and opening times through the official Frankfurt visitor website.

For more time outdoors, consider the Palmengarten. If luxury shopping is a priority, plan your visit to Goethestraße for a suitable shopping day and check individual store hours in advance. Keep Sunday for experiences that you have confirmed are open.

A private itinerary should leave room for your own pace. If walking or standing for longer periods is difficult, let us know before booking so we can discuss the route and practical options.

Have another day? Look beyond the skyline

With an extra day, Frankfurt can become the starting point for a wider regional journey. The Rheingau’s wine villages, historic castles and spa-town atmosphere around Wiesbaden offer a different side of the region. Our Discover Regional Frankfurt experiences can be discussed as full-day or multi-day private itineraries with Jens.

Share the places and experiences that interest you, along with your available time. We will discuss a realistic route and confirm transport, visits and inclusions in your proposal. Castles are not interchangeable short detours: Eltz Castle, for example, is outside Frankfurt near Wierschem in Rhineland-Palatinate and needs separate travel planning.

Visiting during the festive season? Ask about the Original Frankfurt Christmas Markets Tour as a seasonal alternative. Tour availability, timings and inclusions are confirmed individually.

Make the weekend yours

Book your preferred hotel and any special dinner early, then build the rest of your stay around one or two experiences you really want. For couples, friends or visiting colleagues, a private tour gives the day a shared focus while leaving space for independent exploring.

Send us your preferred date, group size, interests and dietary or accessibility requirements. We will discuss the options and provide a personal quote. For detailed practical answers, read our Frankfurt Visitor Guide and Frankfurt Tours FAQ.
